After breakfast, set out in the morning to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Spend the morning exploring the 2000-year-old ruins. Have lunch in Meknes, one of Morocco’s Imperial cities. After lunch, your guide will take you on a tour of Meknes, then head to Fes, the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco. Dinner will be served in the hotel.
After breakfast, begin your guided tour of the medina, one of the world’s largest walled-in cities. Explore the narrow streets lined with fresh fruit, spices, intricately woven Berber carpets, and many other art objects of Morocco. Visit the Royal Palace, the tanneries, and potters. For lunch, eat in a traditional restaurant in the heart of the medina. After lunch, complete the tour and return to your hotel for the evening. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.
After an early breakfast, begin your ascent across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Spend most of the day winding through beautiful forests, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and descend towards the Sahara Desert. Stop for lunch in Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. Upon arrival at the Kasbah in Merzouga, enjoy a hot shower or dip in the swimming pool (depending on the weather). In the morning, depart for the beautiful oasis town of Taliouine, known as Morocco’s Saffron capital. Continue to Taroudant, once a former regional capital and the first capital city of the Saadian dynasty. Located at the intersection of Souss Valley and the High Atlas mountains, the “little Marrakech” offers an excellent overview of southern Morocco. Taroudant provides a pleasant setting and a unique product to researchers, with rest in the shade of ochre walls and the sweetness of life and Berber hospitality of Moroccans in a temperate climate throughout the year. Visit the picturesque souks known for leather, iron, wood, painted wood, ceramics, and Berber jewelry. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
After breakfast, depart towards Agadir with its panoramic view over the Atlantic Ocean. Set on a crescent of sand, the wide shallow beach of Agadir stretches as far as the eye can see. After lunch in Agadir, continue north towards Essaouira, a place with a strong historical feel where you can explore Phoenician, Berber, Portuguese, Jewish, and French past in the well-preserved architecture. Enjoy the small alleyways and whitewashed buildings with blue paintwork and the enchanting fishing harbor reflecting the Portuguese character of settlers from the 16th century.
After breakfast, depart to Marrakech via the scenic inland road with the forest of Argan trees, which only exist in this region of the world. Stop to take pictures with goats harvesting Argan fruits.
