Visit our morocco offers tours from Fes

Fès, also spelled Fez, Arabic Fs, is a city in northern Morocco located on the Wadi Fès right above its incursion into the Sebou River, and our Moroccan organization conducts tours from Fès.

It was founded on the banks of the Wadi Fès by Idrs I (east bank, around 789) and Idrs II (west bank, around 789) and is the oldest of Morocco's four imperial towns (west bank, about 809). The Almoravids combined the two portions in the 11th century to form a prominent Islamic city.

Low hills covered with olive groves and orchards almost fully round the city. The historic city of Fès, known as Fès el-Bali, is still partially encircled by the ancient battlements of Fès, flanked by stone towers.

The Royal Palace and the accompanying Great Mosque, which is notable for its 13th-century polychrome minaret, are located in the Fès el-Jedid (New Fès) sector of the city, which was founded by the Marnids in the 13th century. The Mellah, or Jewish neighborhood, is located just south of the Royal Palace.
